With the start of Coachella last weekend, the 2019 festival season is officially upon us with the world’s biggest K-pop festival and convention unleashing the first taste of its artist lineup.
As previously announced, KCON 2019 USA returns this summer with the bicoastal festival hitting New York on July 6-7 and coming back to its Los Angeles home for August 15-18. As the fest has for the past seven years, KCON not only brings a full-fledged K-pop concert extravaganza but panels, workshops, meet-and-greets, merch stands and more relating to all things Korean-pop culture.
The lineup for KCON’s upcoming NYC date is being revealed bit by bit with the festival announcing via a Facebook Live stream that boy bands NU’EST and Tomorrow X Together will be making their way to the Madison Square Garden–based festival.
NU’EST will come to NY for their first-ever appearance as a band. The boy band hit the scene in 2012 to little traction before competing on Korea’s sensational singing competition Produce 101 revitalized their careers and turned them into one of the scene’s leading boy bands. The group is currently preparing to release their new album Happily Ever After on April 29. NU’EST was actually a part of the first-ever KCON in 2012—a.k.a. the summer of “Gangnam Style.”
Meanwhile, Tomorrow X Together is the newest all-star to hit the K-pop scene. Created under the same Korean label as BTS, Big Hit Entertainment, the quintet made a huge splash on the scene with their debut album The Dream Chapter: Star by debuting on the Billboard 200 albums chart, a first for a K-pop act. Known as “BTS’ younger brother band,” the guys are showing that U.S. fans are a priority as the July appearance follows a six-date U.S. tour coming in May.
